8 Ways to Reduce Wrinkles

by admin on May 11, 2009

Wrinkles typically start to appear anytime from the early 30’s to mid 40’s in both men and women. We want to cover a few of the most common and effective ways to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. All of the skin treating, wrinkle reducing methods we describe here are known to work, and work over long periods of time. Just like beginning any other skin treatment you should always consult your dermatologist before putting anything on your face other than clean lukewarm water.

1. Consume 8 Glasses of Water a Day
Dehydration is known to cause wrinkles at an earlier age and at a faster rate. Drinking at least 8-8oz glasses of water a day will do wonders for keeping wrinkles in check. Not only does it help wrinkles, it’s just healthy to consume a substantial amount of water daily. As with anything you can have too much water, but as a general guideline 64oz a day is perfect for the normal person.

2. Avoid Unnecessary Stress
Stress is also a common cause of wrinkles, it causes your body to run at an increased blood-pressure, and overtime will loosen the top-layer of skin there by causing wrinkles to appear. No one can avoid all the stress in life, and your wrinkles should not keep you away from activities that you enjoy. Just keep in mind that the less stress you live with the healthier you will be period.

3. Limit Alcohol Consumption
It’s common for people to go out and have a couple of drinks, this is typically fine and will not increase your wrinkles -in both size, nor quantity-… However drinking does dehydrate your body, and when your body gets dehydrated your face gets dry and wrinkles form at an astounding rate. A drink here or there is nothing to be concerned about, but make sure you don’t drink consistently or for extended periods of time as it will make your wrinkles worsen.

4. Quit Smoking
Smoking doesn’t just hurt your respiratory system, it also hurts your skin. It’s been proven that cigarette smoking causes your skin to age much faster than average, therefor not only increasing the chances of getting wrinkles earlier, but causing them to be more severe once they begin to appear. Quitting smoking can often have a reverse effect on wrinkles, sometimes to the point that some medications and treatments can. Don’t smoke, it does nothing beneficial for you.

5. Eat More Cold-Water Fish
Your dietary habits play a major role in the condition of your skin, so much so that there are skin treatments designed around certain weight-loss diet systems out there. Eating more cold-water fish such as Salmon will have an immediate and long-lasting effect on your skin and the reduction of wrinkles is always noticeable.

6. Retin A
Retinoids, or Retin-A  in general are proven to be very effective at treating wrinkles. It’s primary ingredient (Tretinoin) is a very popular and emerging skin treatment chemical. It’s a very potent and proven medication that swiftly yet permanently will clear away small wrinkles and fine-lines in your face. It does cause your skin to dry out at times, so always use it with an accompanying light moisturizer to prevent over drying of your skin.

7. Don’t Over Wash Your Face
This may sound absurd to you but washing you face too often or too roughly can increase the severity of wrinkles and lines in your skin. It irritates and dries your skin if you wash it to much, and always avoid soaps, instead use cleansers. Most soaps dry your skin by default, using a specifically engineered cleanser will typically keep your skin moist while still giving you a nice clean face.

8. Avoid the Sun
Even though your tan will suffer, your wrinkles will be slowed greatly by removing sun completely, or greatly reducing direct sunlight on your face. Using protective clothing, or a well engineered sunblock product will typically work. Sunlight dries your skin, especially the skin on your face at a very fast rate, those who are exposed to sun more than others will get wrinkles at a much younger age and with much more prominence on their face. This is a lifelong habit, the sooner you start the better for your face it is.

There are many skin treatments, wrinkle creams such as Renova, medications and medical procedures for treating wrinkles, which one you choose will depend on price, availability and your lifestyle. Always keep in mind that you don’t want anything more on your face than required at any given time and to always keep your skin moisturized and clean.
